According to the New England Kayak Fishing site Joppa has been a mixed bag. A couple of 40″+ fish were taken last night, but a lot of the guys found nothing. Live and cut bait seemed more productive than the Joppa standard sluggos. For those who get up early, like Tom S., the fishing has been really good. Tom’s seen river blitzes most every day for two weeks now. We talked to a couple of Haverhill guys who were drifting chunks Sunday between 4am and 11l They only got three fish, and all of them were between daybreak and 7am.
Yesterday saw a few topwater fish taken in the Flats. One of our local law enforcement officers grabbed a nice 40″ striper using a super spook. Always a fun time watching the attack on a spook. Kind of surprising, but we’ve got reports of getting Flounder off the South Jetty on the river side. The preferred bait was herring and jackerel. Clams and worms were producing on the river, but the section between the jetty and the sandbar have been pretty dead.
