Yesterday afternoon’s outgoing tide produced some nice fish. Joe Scanlon from Salem NH caught this 8-10 pounder(above) in the mouth while using a bucktail jig with a soft bait attached to it. Joe says that he and the few other fishermen that were around his area were hooking up one after the other. They were all using lures.

Arty Fortin from Stoneham MA was also inside the mouth of the Merrimac fishing worms and caught an 11-4 pound striper. And brothers Frank and Josh Carabello from Danvers MA said they had a great day fishing, also were using worms inside the river. They got their fish towards the bottom of the outgoing tide through the turn on the tide. Catch total was 9 fish in the range of 16-34″ for them and stated that they saw many others doing well. Very active fish inside the river for the low tide! A few birds were working but they couldn’t tell what, if any bait fish the fish and birds were chasing. These brothers left with big grins and looking forward to some fish supper. Biggest fish weighed in at 11-12.

Arty Fortin
11-4

Brothers Carabello

First trip down for Frank Taylor and his son from Hudson NH porduced this fish last night from along the oceanfront during the incoming tide. He was using a Storm Shad. So, as you can see over the last few days fish have been caught on worms, clams, swimmers, jig, softbait, etc. Think we have hungry fish or what???

Another great night on the beachfront tonight! Last couple hours of the incoming tide produced 4 fish for myself, this was the biggest at 33″ which was sent back to become a 40. Another 25 inch and a couple schoolies. All fish came on a Daiwa SP Salt Minnow. I saw a few other folks hooking up, including one 40″ or so on a plastic swim shad. The key again was to keep moving and cover as much beach as possible.

Just before closing last night we had a very excited “out of breath” angler arrive at the store. Local resident K.C. Lee from Newburyport came in with this long sleek beuty that he caught on the oceanfront. K.C. says that he walked the beach, oceanside, casting a swimming lure and hooked into this 32-3 pounder (45 inches) in the middle of catching 10-16 INCH schoolies. He saw other fishermen further down the beach catching fish also. Most looked to be schoolie size as far as he could see. He also said the birds were working the surface. This fish was caught during the top of the incoming tide.

Other action from yesterday had some fish in the river during the low tide. Mike Winn from Woburn got his 9-9 pounder from the surf in the Merrimac River using worms.

Hello friends,

I hope you are well. I am writing to invite you to our club meeting on 15-MAY-2012. After the business portion, we are having our third annual round table discussion. This year’s topic is: Striper Strategies from the Surf and Boat. This is a great opportunity to learn new techniques and exchange ideas. Before the first round table, I could not snag a fish on a needlefish plug from a sea pregnant with fish . The following season, I have landed more keepers on needlefish than any other plug in my bag. Coincidence? Not!
.

.
We are meeting up for the 2012 Invitational at 11:00 PM on 26-MAY-2012 at the Plum Island Airport. If you have not joined or formed a team yet, our club meeting on 15-MAY-2012 is a great opportunity to do so!
.
You can also renew your membership at our club meeting on 15-MAY-2012 and save some money on postage! .
.
I am bringing some new gear for show and tell. I hope to see at the club meeting.
.
Tight lines,
Julio
.
PS
Doors open at 7:00 PM. Supper is served until the start of the meeting (7:30 PM) at prices that will not break the bank.

Yesterday afternoon John Lob from Newton weighed in this 11-11 pounder that he caught from the oceanfront on worms.

Again, Sunday seems to be the hot day. The usual crowd of thugs…….sorry fishermen……….were here at opening to get their bait and head to the beach. Some of them came back in to the shop later on to give us the news. Joe Torname came in with his dinner that weighed in at 14 pounds. Joe fished the oceanfront with worms during the top of the incoming tide, through it, and into the top of the outgoing. He said that for the first few hours today everyone was hooking up, then after the change of the tide it went quiet.

Mark Rennie from Barrington NH , pictured here with his 15 pounder, fished the bottom of the outgoing tide. He caught his fish using clams in the mouth of the Merrimac River.

And, finally just a few moments ago we had our resident misfit, Teddy come in with his 12-4 pounder that he caught walking the oceanfront casting a bucktail jig. And there it is, the key to lure fishing, WALKING. You have to get out and walk up and down the beach. Do not stay in one place, move about. Teddy and quite a few others are coming up with a lot of fish becasue they are staying mobile. So, if you are someone who likes to strictly work the plugs, keep moving.

“There’s some big ones around! Bass slurping bait off the surface all morning. She got a Mother’s day free pass to swim. That’s a 4000 sargus for comparison. 40″ and skinny.”

Clams

Then we also had some action from the beach in the afternoon. Tom Coultas from Dracut, MA was fishing worms on the oceanfront and caught this 12.5 pounder

Some other fish were caught tonight on the oceanfront with lures. These guys walk from the shop north on the beach and just cast away. Swimming lures seemed to be the thing this evening.

See ya all in the morning!
