August 4, slow fishing

August 4, slow fishing

Weighed in a  28 pounder yesterday off a boat in the mouth with a chunk of mackerel. Fish on the sandbar, but smaller ones, and those pesky bathers and surfers were working the sandbar as well, so not very conducive to surfcasting. Last night the fishermen on the flats seemed very quiet. Most everyone we heard last night was tossing eels, and we heard a couple of tight lines. We got some short hits and spooked only one fish. The action seemed to be picking up a little on the outgoing tide, but we gave up about 12:30, preparing for working this morning. Water temp was 72 degrees and full shining moon with no clouds.
