April 23, Shad hunters fail

It’s just about time in the Merrimac River that the Shad should be showing up. George Bossi spent an hour or two casting darts yesterday but came up empty. Rumor from a third party says (and could be a lie, as fishermen have a reputation) that someone hooked up yesterday.

The shop is buzzing with bags of reels coming in for tune ups. There’s a wait, so if you want to have your stuff ready to go better bring it in now.

We’re drawing from our thousands of photographs of weighed fish from the last 49 years and posting them a few each week. Here’s one of Bob Smith from 1963 sporting a nice 40 pounder.
