One kayak schoolie to report today, so very little going on. Earlier in the week the night eel slingers on Joppa were getting kind of skunked. No 40″ fish like the week before. Just some 24″ schoolies to show for the effort.
For the Parker River Refuge drive on guys, the gates are set to open on September 1. Hopefully tropical storm Danny won’t remove the remaining sand. You, too, can get a drive-on permit for $50. Best deal on the ocean, 60 days of beachfront property for less than a buck a day. Go to the Parker River wildlife Refuge Headquarters to get your permit. You’ll need a 4-wheel drive vehicle (not all-wheel drive, they’re not allowed). Also you’ll need a shovel, a tow rope, a jack, and a piece of lumber to put your jack on. One last thing, you’ll need a tire guage.
If you don’t have a truck, parking lot 3 is open for surfcasting, and that’s usually a jumping off point for fall stripers and blues. By the way, BrianMoc reports some enormous Bluefish off Cranes beach in the surf, and the boat guys are still doing well with stripers all along the Parker River.
