Details for 2016 Drive-On Surf Fishing Permit Process

Those interested in applying for a 2016 Drive-On Surf Fishing Permit at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge may do so now through August 4th. 85 permits will be issued this year. Permits will be awarded by lottery selection!

Permit applicants must provide all of the following information on a 3”x 5” card, either in person or via mail: name, address, daytime phone number (and an email address, if they have one). Applicants must also provide their Massachusetts saltwater license number OR the number of a saltwater license that was issued to them by a state that has a reciprocity agreement in place with the State of Massachusetts (NH, RI, CT). Applicants must also provide a copy of the registration for their four wheel drive motor vehicle. An individual is limited to entering the lottery once in a given year. For further details about the permit lottery, please stop by refuge headquarters, the refuge entrance station (on Plum Island), or visit the refuge web site (“Refuge News & Publications” tab): Parker River Refuge.

Complete applications must be received at refuge headquarters no later than 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 4th.
Permits will be awarded by lottery selection. Selectees will be notified by email or phone no later than Monday, August 8th. All successful applicants must pick up their permit, have their vehicle inspected, and pay the appropriate fee at the refuge headquarters by Sunday, August 21st. If any permits remain unclaimed, alternates will be notified by August 22nd and must pick up their permit, have their vehicle inspected, and pay the appropriate fee by August 31st. Additional information will be provided to successful applicants. Inspection times will be weekdays 8:30 am to 4:00pm and some weekend hours (information which will be provided to lottery winners).

Applications can be mailed to: Parker River NWR, 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, MA, 01950. Applications can also be dropped off at the same location during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8:00am – 4:00 pm.
