Fishing by Surfboard……………4/25/12

Just kidding………………………..but I have a local fisherman who is also a surfer in the store today telling me what he saw last night. He went to the oceanfront betweeen 5 and 7 pm. The waves were 8-9 footers, the sun was setting, the waves were cresting. Well, he got an eye full. He says that he witnessed a beautiful blitz. Seagulls diving, bait fish going crazy, bass chasing. It looked like little sand lancers, but not 100% positive. We are having the discussion in the store….lances or baby eels???? Well, he also stated that when the waves crested, because of the sun being behind and shining into the waves he could see the fish crusing through the waves chasing the bait fish. He gave the size range as 25-30 inch fish.

So, guess what……time to hit the beach this week with some metal, bucktails, and maybe a shiny popper.

Another call in today reported a lot of bass in the Mystic River. He was calling looking for the Sebile magic swimmer. That was his “hot” lure of the day.

Jay, one of our followers asked this:

Admin: Can you clarify;  Are out of state residents allowed to fish up to Ward Hill as well?  Or are we still only allowed to fish up to the Rt1 bridge with the salt license?

I hope this answers your question:

Jay,  as long as you have a RI, CT, or NH saltwater license which is good for MA you can fish up to the Ward Hill exit which is also the 495 bridge. On line this is where the cut off is for the Merrimack River Interstate 495 Haverhill. More info at:

Scroll down to the Saltwater fishing section.

Happy Fishing

Does anyone know what part of this Mystic River all of the bass have been seen? The Mystic River is the closest location in my area to fish from the shore and I would love to take part in some of the early season action!

Picked off one small schoolie on the beachfront tonite. Hit a small bucktail just behind the waves breaking about 60 ft from shore…

Awesome to hear about fish showing up at Plum! I’m still fishing south of Boston and last saturday I hit exactly 70 stripers. All schoolies. Biggest was 23 inches. 4 hours of non-stop action. So far, I have 107 stripers in April. Can’t believe it!

The seemingly higher numbers of schoolies this year is good to see.

Are there tech. difficulties w/ this site?? There appear to be “7 comments” responding to this post, but none of them show up! (Generally I find useful both the posts and some of the responding comments at this site; thanks.)

There could be something wrong with your computer. I can see all the comments. On another note, 4/29/12 – Jeff and I got 2 keepers a piece at 2 different locations below Boston. I got a 32.5 and 28 inch fish. Jeff’s were around the same size! I think we landed around 9 fish total. Good things are coming!
