July 1. Fireworks.

It’s been an interesting few days up here around the island. We have great reports of big stripers, and we have people who say they’re constantly skunked. The mackerel action at Breaking Rocks goes back and forth. Some folks are only landing 6″ tinker macs, but the next day catch nothing but horse mackerel, with some pollack mixed in too.
.
The most interesting mackerel story I’ve got this week comes from Julie, a co-worker who was into the larger macks, but kept on bringing up these small Rock Cod as well. The Cod seemed to avoid the sabiki rigs, but were grabbing the squid-like lures at the bottom.

.
Mark Q writes to Kay, “I enjoyed chatting with you the other day about the local fishing and I thought you would like to see a picture of the good sized pollock we recently caught offshore on Jeffries Ledge.
.
The photo is on my brother Rick’s boat “Crazed” out of Newburyport and shown in the picture is Jim Vaughn on the left and my nephew Zane Quarantiello is on the right.”

.
We got a note from our skilled man Vic’s Dad. He clearly had a good night on Friday, “Look what I did!! These were caught on a boat friday night just upriver from Joppa flats on live eels the small one was 46 inches the larger was 50. Thank you for providing decades of awesome service and accurate reports. If there is room for my picture on one of your fishing reports web pages it would be an absolute privilege.” Those are large, but they still fit on our page.
