Yesterday we said the river was hot and beach quiet. Last night it turned around. Joppa was pretty quiet during the night tide, but later in the night the beach turned on with a big bunch of mid-teen fish taken on needlefish with teasers. Tonight’s high tide is around 9:30 pm, making the incoming on Joppa a dusk affair, and outgoing cranking around midnight.
The armada was cruising Joppa last night, with a tight mix of kayaks and cruisers. Watch out for each other. The Newburyport side of the river from the Captain’s Lady to the jetty has been it’s usual line of fishermen. Smalls taken mostly on live bait and no big feed too report, but steady fishing none the less.
