Let’s get the season going!!!

Let’s get the season going!!!

This week’s hours:

Monday – Thursday  7 am – 7 pm

Saturday & Sunday 6 am – 7 pm

Well one thing we do know is that the rivers are loaded with herring. Reports have come in for both the  Parker River and the Merrimac River. Everyone has told us that their are tons and with that the “hold over” stripers are now starting to feed up river. Have heard of a few taken but still nothing like the “hold overs” in the Boston area. The South Shore has been reporting that stripers are finally showing up so it should be later this week or weekend that we should start to see the little rats running the beaches here. We know everyone is anxious to get the season underway so hopefully some nice weather this week(???) will get things moving.

The shad fishing since our first report has not been what we hoped for. Slow start to this season for sure all around. But again we are hoping that this week produces more fish for the fishermen upriver.

We have a lot of guys asking about flounder. Again, we haven’t heard of any yet. Will be interesting to see if the changing of the oceanfront after these winter storms will change some of the flounder fishing for us. Some years if there is a decent sized sandbar out front they don’t seem to come over it. They stay in that 30′ depth that is on the other side of the sandbar….a bit to far for the surf fishermen to cast to. So time will tell on that one.

So, welcome back to another season and hope to see you out trying this week for your first schoolie!

Gave it try on Sunday from various locations along Cranes and Steep Hill Beach. Nada.

Before the season kicks off could Surfland offer any parking advice? Newbury has restricted the only available “free” parking that was out front along the beach to residents. I know there’s the pay to park lot but if your a frequent visitor it gets a little pricey. Any advice?
