18 May May 18………..the fishing just keeps getting hotter and hotter!
Well it has centainly been a incredible few days. Joppa has come alive. Finally some of the boaters and kayakers are starting to see and catch fish inside the river. It seemed like a lot of them had passed right on by and made a “b” line up river. Had one of the regulars in that fish up river (Haverhill through Lawrence), and said they are hooking into some really big fish. Most of these fishermen are throwing lures. But, back to Joppa. There must of been twenty boats out there this morning for the incoming tide. Wednesday afternoon, local fishing legend Mark Gallagher and grandson Kaiden had a fantastic day fishing. Kaiden caught this 14 pounder (will a little help from grandpa) on a bucktail jig inside the mouth of the river on the outgoing tide.
And finally the river action has caught up with the great action that we have seen along the oceanfront. The outgoing tide, mostly the bottom of the tide has erupted. Most everyone has had a productive outing. Cathy’s back again for another season and she hooked into this 9-4 pounder. Congrats Cathy! Nice fish for dinner caught on worms.
Jim Twohig from Millis, MA also caught this 12-2 pounder on worms during the outgoing tide Thursday in the river.
And today, we just had a few fishermen in that were down the river for the outgoing tide. These fishermen spent their time using lures and they said “fish were everywhere”!
These guys were using a lot of soft baits, anything from the Storm shad, sandeels, and sluggo’s to a few swimmimg lures. “Knock on wood eveyone! The fish are here and hope they stick around”! Also have strated hearing of a few people hooking into Sturgeon. Remember, it is illegal to keep a Sturgeon.
Happy Fishing eveyone!
