May 23, Fish all around

May 23, Fish all around

The fishing is steady all around the island. Today’s weather is really perfect. Slight East wind, grey overcast, 60 degrees. Seems like on the outgoing tide this afternoon things will break out big.

Last night saw a large blitz stretching from the Captain’s Lady all the way to the Jetties. One of our customers said it was the best outing he’d ever had. He lives nearly an hour away, and came back this morning for more. The Plum Island Surfcasters had one of their kid’s events this morning and it was a great success. Fishing from the beach right down the street, the 5 children and two dads got into fish on the first cast, and continued grabbing schoolies all the way through 11am.

Another Parker River report that shows the fish are in. Upriver, about 11 o’clock last night our pal Jim had good luck flyrodding, catching a half dozen fish in the mid 20″ range. Others there using topwater were a little less successful, but all were getting their fill late at night.

The party boats still are being successful with the cod offshore, and the Captain’s Lady has started their half day trips where they usually go for Stripers or Mackerel. You know if the party boats are chasing inshore fish they’re pretty much all around.

Not as many fish off the beach this time. Did get three nice ones (24-27)closer to sunrise, lots of fun though!
