Three Plum Island regulars, George Bossi, Bob Smith, and John Liss, were out early this morning in the fog casting bucktail jigs and were rewarded with the first keepers we’ve seen this season from the beach. They fished the Merrimack River mouth by the sand spit just east of the Captains Ladies dock. Judging from the time they cam into the shop, at 7:30, they were fishing the incoming tide from nearly dead low.
George Bossi brought this fish in, and it stands as the first keeper to the shop for the season.
The guys are long, long, long-timers. And the gear is simple. White lead-head bucktail jigs with plastic swim tails. these are easy to find, and cheap to, under $5 pretty much anywhere. Of course we’d love to sell them to you right here at Surfland.
Shad Here Too.
We had a caller a few days ago reporting schools of small bass congregating around the docks at the North End Boat Club. Yes, there were schools. No, they were not bass. But for you Shad guys, this could be a good spot. Pretty good sized Shad roaming the river bank and taking advantage of the structure.
