November 11 – We hear echoes of the fat lady

November 11 – We hear echoes of the fat lady

Seem’s she’s sung. Two of our die hard surfcasters, Marcelo and Bill, reported no results for their efforts yesterday. One little tap was all they got.
.
However we still have a few pics to share from recent weeks. First one is the last one we weighed in this year, a 19 pounder by Steve Gallant. He was fishing a Murderous Richard off the beach (The Murderous Richard is a more pleasant way of identifying the ever-productive Deadly Dick lure.) This is from the October 28, and it’s been waiting since then to be posted.
.

.
This fish was weighed in on 10/18/12, 22 lbs, 4 ounces, worms on the wildlife, middle of the day.

.
Also, we have a mystery to solve. We noticed this fish pic up on the picture board today. We don’t know who pinned it there, or where the fish was caught, so we thought we’d ask you guys. Who and Where?
.

.
Web site overhaul – What do you want in it?
.
Stickman is rebuilding our web site so it works better with search engines and the current versions of internet browsers. It will be changing over the next couple of weeks. He’d like to know what kinds of features you’d like to see in the new site. What would you find useful, what would you rather have than what we got now?
.
Here’s his ideas so far:
– Sell gift certificates online
– a Google Map of the best fishing places, so when we refer to them you know where we’re talking about (nothing secret of course)
– Start digitizing the Surfland Weigh-in photo archive. (we’ve got pics from every season since 1960.)
– Add a Youtube channel for your submissions
– Easier way to comment on our posts
– A monthly sale special e-mail. You’d sign up and each moth we’d feature a deal.
– Depending on how complex it is to build, we might have a Plum Island Message board that you can discuss things on at out site.
.
Send your ideas to Stickman: stickman@surflandbt.com and he’ll do what he can to make them happen.
.
Help Stickman sell some films
Finally, in another of many shameless plugs, take a look at his fishing movie:
Reel People: Fishermen of Plum Island. We trade him this advertising space for all he does around here, plus, of course, a mess of eels in the summer.
.

.
And here’s the trailer to wet your appetite.

Although you already have a comment section, it would be nice if there was a specific area where local fisherman could continuously update our reports from the Island. Anyone else?

Maybe a discussion forum like the firstlightanglers.com guys have.
Just a thought. I post there all the time and read these reports, too, but the reports here are always a bit after the fact: that’s fine in the fishing world, but I think another forum would be great.

The shop could also post new baits, sales, fresh eels, etc.

    just a thought

I second the idea of a forum section. I, too, check FLA, as well as Reel-Time and Stripers-on-Line, but it would be great to have a go-to forum for PI and who better than the Surfland gang to be at the center of that!
