01 Oct OCT 1 – WEEKLY REVIEW
So, here it is, October 1st, where has the summer gone? But where have the fishermen gone? Where are those guys who couldn’t wait to get out in these rainy and windy days and throw lures?? Don’t give up on the fishing yet. They are here and more are coming. Andy Kelly drove on the beach this past Sunday and got himself a nice fish for the grill or one of our favorites, “striper nuggets”!!! Congrats Andy! Papa Kelly and his boys have had some fantastic luck at night over the last few weeks. They are a huge fan of live eel fishing and fishing with swimming lures (as you can tell from Steve’s posts). Other reports from the weekend drive-on’s was that there were some small fish taken with bait. The mouth of the Merrimac has also produced schoolies on the out going tide near the party boats. And we all know what comes behind the small fish…………………..big ones!
Yesterday we had the weed show up, but that didn’t stop some people. One fisherman was at lot 3 yesterday am, did nothing, caught some weed, came back and fished out front of the shop with some chunk mackerel and caught & released a 28 1/2 pounder. Today we still have a rough ocean, but when this weather blows through, hopefully by Friday, the weed disappears a bit and the sun comes out, the fish will turn on. The reports that came in from the night guys was that the fish hit hard and fast…..they were HUNGRY! Hopefully they stay hungry!

Posted at 17:18h, 05 OctoberI’m relatively new to the area and I just started fishing the Merrimack and Joppa Flats this year (C&R)…does the fishing pick up in the fall?
