Parker River Refuge Drive-on Fishing Permits. Random Drawing!

2011 Drive-on Fishing Season

Drive-on access will be via BB-1 only.
BB-2 will be closed.

Vehicles will be required to be off the beach when predicted high tides and storm tides will create conditions leaving little or no useable beach. The MBBA Beach Rep for Plum Island will have the authority to require all permitted users to vacate the beach at such times, and must notify the Refuge Manager the dates and durations such self imposed closure occurs within 12 hours.

Access will be from BB-1 south to a point yet to be determined (as of 7/28/2011) but is expected to be between mile 3.0 and 4.0. The southern limit will be signed and posted.

As stated in the Compatibility Determination, vehicles are not permitted to “run over wrack nor drive near the base of the foredune nor drive on wet sand”.

Based on the above restriction for driving area, we will issue 75 permits for drive-on fishing.

-Massachusetts Saltwater License number, or the saltwater license number and state for a saltwater license that has a reciprocity agreement with Massachusetts (NH, RI, CT).

– Applications must be received before August 15, 2011
– 75 applications will be randomly drawn and notified by August 19, 2011
.
– Successful applicants must obtain their permit at the Parker River NWR Headquarters, have their vehicle inspected, and pay the appropriate fee by August 26, 2011.

– If any permits remain, alternates will be notified by August 28, 2011 and must obtain their permit, have a vehicle inspection, and pay the fee by September 2, 2011.

– Successful drive-on applicants who have a valid 2011 Parker River NWR walk-on night fishing permit will be charged the difference of the two permits.
– Any violations of these conditions will result in the closing of drive-on fishing for the remainder of the drive-on season.
– No permit will be issued until full compliance with the requirements of inspection and fee payment.
– Vehicle inspections and payments may be made at the Parker River NWR Headquarters at 6 Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport during normal office hours (Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm).
