Refuge Beach Access Status

Refuge Beach Access Status

Refuge Beach Access Status

As of Friday morning, August 21st, and with the exception of parking lot and boardwalk No. 6, all parking lots and boardwalks providing public access to the refuge’s Atlantic Ocean beach will reopen! This also includes night fishing so get your permit today! But remember the rules of night fishing. The gate closes at sunset so you have to be on the PRWF before the gate closes!!! And please pay attention to the rules. Parking Lot 6 is still off limits so please respect that because it will soon open up. As far aws drive ons, we still haven’t heard the official opening of that season but it should be sometime the first week of September. Hopefully sooner than later!

Other news on the fishing front. Two different fishermen over the last few days have told Kay that they have had big fish on but have lost them at the wash. This has all been along the oceanfront using bait during the daylight hours.

Also  got this email from Adam and Noah Leger yesterday:

“Hey guys, we hit the oceanfront 2day for a little fishing & some sun … 1 striper 22″ , some skates & to our suprise this guy! (Yes we used it as bait-to no avail) still a good day though. Kay, thanks for the great worms as always! ….” Adam & Noah

And on August 13 Morton Heafitz caught this 23-4 pounder on a live eel from a boat along the Plum Island  Oceanfront. Nice work guys!
