September 17, lots of fish around

Bluefish reports are coming in for both the beach and boat. The trolling guys are consistently hooking up with big blues, and according to yesterdays report from Ed and Spectre, you have your pick:

.

  1. ED says
Thrusday Sept 16 fished lot 3 from 6am to noon and the blue fish were everywhere. They hit anything thrown to them. After catching over 30 fish, my wrist were too tired so I quit.
  2. Irish Spectre says
…was in Ipswich Bay about 0700 Wed., the 15th, headed over to Rockport to pull my traps, when all hell broke loose w/ bluefish blitzing, pretty much here, there, and everywhere. A nice 8 or so pounder upchucked a half dozen whole, three inch shiners as soon as I boated him, so that’s what was causing all the fuss. Things quieted after 1 1/2 hours or so, so I went on my way. The wind and water had kicked up pretty good by the time I returned on the way back, and the blitzing had stopped

.

While out bluefishing myself, There was even a decent tuna blitz about 2 miles off of Emerson Rocks in Ipswich bay. Only lasted about 20 seconds, but there were a dozen or so tuna blasting the surface. Maybe they found a school of bluefish and were stocking up. And for the second day in a row, we saw a big Mola Mola.

.

We’ve had a good number of bass as well, though not as many as the blues. Here are a couple to savor. Here’s Doug Henderson again with another Striper caught on worms down the refuge on the 15th. Doug must have a secret spot he’s not telling anyone about. This fish weighed in at 18.5 lbs

.

Here’s a fish from across the river (the Parker River, that is!). Peter Timmons from Rockport weighed in this 28.12 pound striper Wednesday afternoon. He caught it over on Crane’s Beach using a live eel. Nice fish Peter!

Here is Thomas Janocha from Pelham NH with the custom fishing rod (created by Mike MacCormack) and reel that was donated by Surfland to Pat at Carriagetown Chocolates in downtown Amesbury.(Great Ice Coffees!!!) Pat held the raffle to raise money to support “Lucy’s Love Bus”. www.lucyslovebus.org

.

They were at Woodsom’s Farm in Amesbury this past Sunday releasing monarch butterflies. You might have seen it in the paper or on the news. The event was a huge success. Pat raise $2600 that went to this charity. Way to go Pat!

.

Thank you to all the Surfland customers who bought raffle tickets. Thomas is fairly new to fishing so he now has a top notch fishing rod to get

.

One Happy Fisherman sent this to us. A little different from the regular catches. “Thanks for providing e-mail. I was enjoying your reports and decided to send a picture of unusual catch. Last week I was fishing the Merri river and fishing was real slow on the ocean side, so I decided to jig up the river and on the second cast got this nice fish: Atlantic (longnose) sturgeon. After snapping couple of pics and measuring, fish was properly revived and let go. It measured 65 inch and according to StClair’s length weight chart it could be in the rage of 75 – 84#s.”

.

Finally, remember that we have a month-long sale going! Big Lure Sale:
