Sorry about our own internet troll

The last couple of blog posts here at Surfland have become rather unsavory. A couple users on the blog have been writing so much crap that we’ve considered stopping all comments. But for the meantime, we’re gonna try to weed out the BS comments. I’m certain some will slip by, but we’ll do our best.

In case you don’t recognize the terminology, an Internet Troll is defined by Wikipedia as:

a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the Internet to distract and sow discord by posting inflammatory and digressive,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses[2] and normalizing tangential discussion,[3] whether for the troll’s amusement or a specific gain.

“Jackass” might be a better description. Anyway, if you’re curious, you can find all sorts of information here. Generally, the advice is to ignore rather than engage with a troll. It’s sometimes phrased as, “Please do not feed the trolls.”
