The Dredging Project

The Dredging Project

Steve asked this question the other day……………………..

steve says:

hi all, hearing about this dredging project. can anyone tell of what this did to fishing the last time they did it, read it was 11 years ago. just curious if this will create/extend any sandbars on the beachfront over the winter. any thoughts opinions??

I asked Kay and her reply was “i don’t know”. She says that they did a different kind of dredging 11 years ago. Last time the dredged the river they took the sand and dumped it out to sea. Back then, the boat guys reported catching a lot of fish when they worked the waters behind the dredger. This year they are pumping the sand from the dredger through pipes and dumping it directly onto the beach.  So far she has not had a report from any of the fishermen whether or not anything has been churned up and turned the fishing on in this area. Sorry we don’t have a better answer for you, but maybe others can share their knowledge on this subject. Remember, it was a little tough fishing last week. Especially tough from a boat.

I haven’t been fishing every day so I can’t say for sure but its been quiet on the north end of the beach since the dredging started- at least that’s my experience.

Surf fished south of the merrimack, 5 hrs last nite with bllo, sea worms and clam. Nothing. Moved to north of the river, caught 4 schoolies (biggest 23″) and a skate. Sand lance were getting pushed up onto shore. Hint: must have something to do with all sand that’s getting churned up? 😉
