This morning’s Big Mamma

This morning’s Big Mamma

Here’s a large bass caught today around 10:30 in the mouth of the Merrimack. That’s just about full tide, and judging from the gear in the background, I’m figuring it was live macs as the bait. That’s Julie C. from Newburyport hiding behind the cow.

My cousin and I watched this fish being caught. Was a nice one! However, that was about the only nice one caught today. Only caught and saw a handfull of small stripers. Small blues were beating up the Live macks bad! I caught a few of them after putting a stinger treble hook way back.

P.S. That fish was not exactly caught in the mouth but in respect for the fisher woman I will not reveal where.

Fisherwoman here! You are correct, Sir. This fish was caught off the North jetty…but not in the mouth. That was only the second striper I’ve ever reeled in, and my first of this season. I was a little ecstatic, which you likely heard, and then could barely hold the thing. This was a monster for me. Glad someone else witnessed it!
